Codebreakers Challenge: Unlocking Secrets with Logic is the name of the mathematics competition in the Boundless Mathematics series, designed for students in P5, P6, and Secondary Level. All the games in this competition are very exciting and are crafted to stimulate multiple intelligences in students. There are four games that we will explore together, each designed to engage and enhance various intelligences such as logical-mathematical, spatial, naturalist, linguistic, and interpersonal skills. By participating in these activities, students will develop a deeper understanding of mathematics and its applications, making learning both fun and meaningful.

TINY VERSION

KnowledgeNumber, Geometry, Measure, Data Handling, Problem Solving
SkillCreativity, Critical Thinking
Multiple Intelligence
Spatial, logical-mathematical, linguistic

Overview

  1. Participants will compete in pairs
  2. Each pair is given the challenge to work on a project to make a model of a tool, building or any concrete objects that make sense if it is formed into a mini version
  3. Participants observe objects and take precise measurements
  4. Participants form scales by considering doable elements
  5. Participants form 3D constructions according to the real objects they observe
  6. Participants display mock-ups by including information labels
  7. The winners will be decided by considering how suitable the mock-up is to the real object, and how powerful the information label is

MY CHARACTER

KnowledgeGeometry, Measure, Problem Solving
SkillCritical Thinking, Creativity
Multiple IntelligenceNaturalist, logical-mathematical, dan linguistic

OVERVIEW

  1. Children compete individually
  2. Children are challenged to design a unique maths-character
  3. The character must represent math symbols, shapes, or any element that relates to mathematics
  4. The purpose of character creation is to provide visual appeal that makes the audience feel happy and curious about mathematics
  5. Children are given two options, i.e. character creation with manual sketching models or by using computer software
  6. Winners are determined from these two categories: manual and digital characters
  7. The scoring will be based on the visual elements presented and how they fit into the maths world

TRAVEL ITINERARY

KnowledgeNumber, Measure, Problem Solving, Data Handling
SkillCritical Thinking, Creativity
Multiple IntelligenceSpatial, logical-mathematical, dan linguistic

Overview

  1. An individual based competition.
  2. Each participant is challenged to create travel itinerary for him/herself.
  3. The itinerary covers participant’s travel plan, e.g. vacation, family visit, music concert, etc.
  4. Each participant is given full authority to design the plan, starts from building up ideas to transferring to tangible form.
  5. The design must follow these elements:
  • Idea creation: purposeful and meaningful
  • Design structure: information completeness and organization
  • Visualization: unique and impactful

VISUALIZING GEOMY’S ARTICLES

KnowledgeNumber, Data Handling, Problem Solving
SkillCommunication, Critical Thinking, Creativity
Multiple IntelligenceVisual-Spatial, Logical-Mathematical, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal

OVERVIEW

  1. Children get 5 choices of articles with different themes
  2. The child chooses the theme according to his/her favourite
  3. The child re-presents the data written in the article into a visual form that is easier to read
  4. Winners are determined by information accuracy and vote for the best visualisation
